Conquer The Cashel

A 2km obstacle course under the Rock of Cashel, made huge by Red Bull marketing!

With over 20 obstacles across a short distance, this is a very fun and accessible race. It's also pretty competitive with big cash prizes. Sean and I were joined by a big gang of friends from Limerick and we were all in the same wave. It was warm, sunny and packed with people. Finishers looked soaked, muddy and tired so we weren't fully sure what to expect out there.

After walking past some of the course we arrived at the start line and were counted down. Under and over poles, walls, nets, through a tree, pipes, tyres and water. With about 25 people in a wave being up front would help, but that's easier said than done. A slip on the nets cut both my shins and while fun, none of it felt easy.

Emerging from the water we had rope climbs, more nets, climbing over platforms, walls, hay bales and walking on balance beams. More balancing, more walls (some excessively high) and then came the mud pit. Under a low pole that forced you to get dirty then straight to the monkey bars with your newly slippy hands.

I saw others fall into the water here and had to clean my hands inside my top to let me make it first try. Past that it was a sprint to the finish for photos, showers and food. A great day out and Anna even managed to place second in the women's to win €500. Great fun and not one to be missed.
